To collect data for analysis, we used our own product, StatusGator. To evaluate this, we reviewed Slack’s reliability over time. Looking at this major outage, we questioned if Slack is more or less reliable after the acquisition by Salesforce, similar to our previous overview of GitHub downtime after its acquisition by Microsoft. In February of 2022, roughly 6 months after its acquisition, Slack exhibited one of its biggest outages ever recorded, lasting 3+ hours followed by more than 10 hours of minor incident status. On July 21, 2021, Salesforce completed its purchase of Slack for $27.7 billion and announced plans to make Slack an operating unit under Salesforce. According to Techjury, more than 10 million people used Slack every day in 2022, and 43% of Fortune 100 businesses are paying for Slack subscriptions.
