Overall, I left the movie a little dissappointed. The action portion of the movie, although spectacular, cannot save the movie from its weak storyline and character development. As for the main characters, there is no growth or significant development in their story, or in any other recurring characters' stories. all of which are dismissed at the end of the movie. Like branches of the military attacking each other, an act of war from an outside nation, magician slavery, and tension between military and civilians. things happen in the story that should have wider implications than what the movie allows. The new characters introduced barely get any characterization due to the bloated cast and the plot is problematic. The movie suffers from pacing whiplash, going from mysterious high-stakes action to slice-of-life cute girls doing cute things with a gratuitous amount of fanservice (the majority of the movie), back to serious, fast-paced action. The movie itself plays like an extended bonus episode rather than a continuation or culmination of the show it is based on. During these uncertain times, a little bit of entertainment goes a long way and Funimation is remaining committed to doing just that for the anime community. The irregular at magic high school movie, while visually interesting, suffers from poor pacing and a plot hole ridden storyline that represents a microcosm of the series as a whole. It is all part of Funimation’s plan to launch special programming in collaboration with its partners to bring joy and to give back to the anime community. This is coming hot off the heels of Funimation’s announcement that brought the Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl movie to their streaming service. Miyuki will be starting as an elite Course 1 student whereas Tatsuya, because he’s stricken by a certain deficiency, will be a Course 2 student as an “irregular.” Admired by her fellow students, Miyuki worships only Tatsuya, causing him to draw the ire of the Course 1 students. The broadcast of both will be available for a two-week period so be sure to check it out while you can!įunimation describes The Irregular at Magic High School as follows:īrother and sister Tatsuya and Miyuki Shiba have enrolled at the National Magic University Affiliated First High School.

Funimation and Aniplex of America have teamed up again! This time, they are bringing The Irregular at Magic High School to Funimation on May 1! This includes both the television anime series as well as the movie, The Irregular at Magic High School: The Girl Who Summons the Stars.
